The desert heat at Pah Rah Park in Sparks, NV is no match for the cooling power of Shade Systems^™!

Despite its high desert climate, Pah Rah Park has become a very popular community gathering place for kids and parents alike from the morning until early evening.  It’s no wonder, since the new Shade Systems CoolNet™ fabric canopies screen up to 99% of the sun’s dangerous U.V. rays, and can lower temperatures by 15-20 degrees!

Rick Darby, Parks Development and Operations Manager, explained why shade was needed: “Here in Reno, at the foot of the Sierra Mountains, it is not uncommon for temperatures to reach over 100 degrees. We wanted to shade equipment so parents and kids could have shade.” He added: “The shade canopies enhance the environment and prevent melanoma, the fastest growing type of cancer. We are realizing how important it is to provide shade for people recreating outdoors.”

The Pah Rah Park shade canopies incorporate Shade Systems’ innovative ‘Sails’ which are engineered to attach at each point with a single stainless steel connection.  All cables and hardware are also stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance and longevity.

The City of Sparks Park officials were very happy with the outcome of the Shade Systems shade project and its customer service: “The service from Shade Systems was very helpful and the products exceeded our expectations. We had contact with engineers on different occasions and the turnaround time for questions was very prompt.”

Now that shade canopies are up at Pah Rah Park, citizens are contacting elected officials and requesting shade at their own particular park. Parents and kids love the shade structures that help create and add atmosphere. “My kids call it the ‘Dream Park.'” said Tony Pehle, Recreation Supervisor for the City of Sparks. “The playground area is always full and the shade adds safety when playing around equipment in 95-100 degree heat.”
